LOCAL COLLEGE TO BEGIN WRESTLING PROGRAM
The University of Texas at Dallas will begin competing in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association beginning this fall. The coaching staff is in place and is very excited about building a first class collegiate wrestling program for the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The head coach for the program is Shawn Wilson. Shawn was a state champion for Plano High School and then went on to wrestle for Iowa State University. He has been the head coach for the Stars Youth Wrestling Club for 11 years. In that time the club has produced multiple youth and high school state champions and Division 1 college wrestlers. Coach Wilson states that he is very excited to be able to bring a wrestling program to the DFW area that will give Texas wrestlers an opportunity to wrestle in a competitive atmosphere, while furthering their education as a respected member of the University of Texas system. UTD Will be competing with NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and NCWA Teams across the Country. Their Partial Schedule includes trips to The Oklahoma Open (OU, OSU). Orlando for the Florida Duals ( Waynesburg, PA. ) (Mt. St. Joseph, OH.) (Lawrence, WI.) along with NCWA National Champion (Univ of Central FL.) and the Western Open in San Diego with UC Davis, UC Irvine ,UC San Diego and San Jose State. Home events will include Duals with Texas A&M ,Texas Tech, Kansas State, Colorado & LSU. The coaching staff will try to contact prospective recruits as soon as possible.
