Ben Ashmore
125 lb. Wrestler To Attend
Oklahoma State University

“When I first got started I guess just did it for the fun of the sport. Now, it’s so much more that that, especially now it’s serious, it’s somewhat like having a job that you love doing.” Ben states about how his desire for wrestling changed over the years.

Ben also said he see's the wrestling community as his extended family."I’ve met hundreds of people through wrestling and some of my best friends are because of wrestling. Example: Since attending Bishop Lynch, people that I grew up with during my club wrestling years go to school with me like, Justin Wren, Luke Silver, Justin Armstrong, and the Adamson brothers. I’ve taken and shared many holiday’s and family trips with other wrestling families, like the Sandoval’s. I have friends almost in every US state and friendships all over the world."

  • Favorite class?

English, because I like to read stories and escape into the story.

  • Favorite movie?

"Four Brothers" it has a lot of action, it gets me pumped up!

  • Favorite athelete?

The Ultimate Fighter- Chuck Lydell

  • Most memorable moment in sports?

Winning the "Beast of The East" and being ranked #1 nationally.

  • If you could pick anyone to work out with, who would it be?

Who I already work out with, Kendall Cross, he is my size and he helps me in every position. He is like a dictionary for wrestling, he can show me different moves offensively and defensively. No matter what position I'm in, he pretty much has the answer.

  • Who has had the greatest impact in your athletic achievements and why?

First off God. Without God and prayer before every match, I wouldn't be where I'm at today in my wrestling career.

Then its my dad; Ben Sr. He is the one who got me started at the early age for four. He has always pushed me to do my best through out my life. Secondly, some other people I would credit for getting my this far are; Mark Blair, he was my coach (along with my dad) from the age of 4-11 years old. Kenny Monday took over my coaching responsibilites from then on until now. Kendall Cross who started coaching me last year. My grandparents have played a large role in which I am today. Lastly, my best friend, my brother Luke and my Mother Robin Ashmore.

  • What do you want to do in the future?

Short term goals are to win NCAA in college as well as to participate and hopefully win Olympic Championship. Hopefully, my contribution helps promote wrestling as a whole, but especially in Texas. Texas has been great to me and my brother; I want to be able to give something back.

  • What is your favorite thing to do? Non-sports related?

Hang out with my friends and go out on dates. I love to go to the Mavericks game and like driving nice cars.
